We retrofitted the exterior walls with cellulose insulation this week. It wasn’t too cheap, but I get some money back from Xcel utilities for doing so, and the materials half of the cost qualifies for a 30% tax credit, which all helps. It was big mess to start with, but the guys from Houle Insulation did a pretty good job cleaning up, and I must say, the house does feel cozier when all is said and done. And the patched up holes don’t look that bad – almost good enough I run the risk of learning to live with them instead of sanding them down and painting them!
We’ll have to see how big a difference it may make in the energy usage of the house. I don’t expect immediate payback, but I would like to see a noticeable difference.
